My path to art
Between jazz and color
I'm Monika Herschberger, a visual artist from Vienna. My works emerge from the tension between gestural lightness and opulent expressiveness. With striking lines, graphic elements, and a deep passion for color, material, and movement, I bring emotions to the canvas – raw, vibrant, and intuitive.
My paintings reflect the interplay of stillness and ecstasy: moments of emptiness that create space for pulsating energy. Often, it's the music—my longtime companion as a jazz singer—that sets the rhythm. It resonates in every stroke, every composition.
How a painting is created
My painting is a physical process. I immerse myself in the creative flow, working simultaneously on multiple canvases, layering acrylic paints, adding accents with chalk, and creating complex textures. The titles of my works emerge only at the end, inspired by the painting itself.
